Volunteer

Volunteering in Scouting is easy and flexible – how much time you give is completely up to you.

Whether you help out once a fortnight, month or term or just at special events or camps, there’s a role for everyone.

You don't need to be a superhero!

Scouting relies on people like you to help groups like ours thrive and our young people grow and develop. We’re a friendly, modern and forward thinking Scout Group and we’d love you to join our team.

We have opportunities behind the scenes as well as working directly with the young people in our sections. You don’t need to have any special skills. Do you enjoy being outdoors? Are you good with numbers? Enjoy water activities? Handy in the kitchen? A DIY whizz? You can volunteer and help in many ways.

What's in it for me?

Our team come from all walks of life and are just like you, they have busy family lives and jobs.

Volunteering to help young people is one of the most satisfying things you can do. Your support could put a smile on a young person’s face when they are having a bad day.

Scouting also offers the chance to build on personal skills, like teamwork, confidence and leadership.

"Scouting is a character factory! Any time you can give your local group is truly amazing."

Volunteering FAQs

Will I have to wear a uniform?
We are a uniformed organisation but the majority of our volunteers choose to wear either a polo shirt or hoodie to show they are part of the team.

Will I have to complete loads of training?
The Scout Association has an award winning training scheme available to all volunteers. The training requirement for the majority of roles in Scouting consists of two basic modules that can be completed online at home or with other volunteers locally.

Are volunteers DBS checked?
All adults working in Scouting complete a DBS check. This is quick and simple and can be arranged by us once you’ve started helping.

If I show an interest will I be chucked in the deep end?
No! You’ll be working with an established team of friendly volunteers and there will be loads of support.

What do we need help with?

We’re looking for help with the following roles – can you help?

Help with all sections
Our young people are a brilliant bunch and our activities have never been more popular – we’re looking to grow the team. We won’t throw you in the deep end and you’ll be given all the support you need as you take your first steps as a volunteer with us. You don’t need to commit to helping every week and you don’t need any special skills.

Fundraising / Executive Committee Support
We’re looking for people to join our Executive Committee (like the board of governors in a school) to help lead on the governance of the group and get involved with the organisation of fundraising events.

Quartermaster
We’re looking for someone to assist us with the upkeep, maintenance and records for our camp equipment, trailer and stores.
